Cirrhosis is considered a growing cause of morbidity and mortality, which represents a significant public health problem. Currently, there is no effective treatment to reverse cirrhosis. Treatment primarily centers on addressing the underlying liver condition, monitoring, and managing portal hypertension-related complications, and evaluating the potential for liver transplantation in cases of decompensated cirrhosis, marked by rapid progression and the emergence of complications like variceal bleeding, hepatic encephalopathy, ascites, malnutrition, and more. Malnutrition, a prevalent complication across all disease stages, is often underdiagnosed in cirrhosis due to the complexities of nutritional assessment in patients with fluid retention and/or obesity, despite its crucial impact on prognosis. Increasing emphasis has been placed on the collaboration of nutritionists within hepatology and Liver transplant teams to deliver comprehensive care, a practice that has shown to improve outcomes. This review covers appropriate screening and assessment methods for evaluating the nutritional status of this population, diagnostic approaches for malnutrition, and context-specific nutrition treatments. It also discusses evidence-based recommendations for supplementation and physical exercise, both essential elements of the standard care provided to cirrhotic patients.

BACKGROUND: Alcohol use has an effect on nutritional status, with nutritional deficiencies being a major contributor to morbidity, for example Wernicke's encephalopathy. Currently, there is an absence of best-practice guidelines to support general practitioners (GPs) in the identification and management of malnutrition and nutritional risk factors in patients who drink at risky levels. OBJECTIVE: This article reviews some of the nutritional considerations in patients who drink at risky levels or who have alcohol dependence, with the aim of enhancing GPs' awareness of the nutritional considerations in this patient group. DISCUSSION: Nutritional risk factors extend beyond body mass index (BMI), and patients might present with a healthy BMI and be malnourished. Screening for risk of malnutrition and other nutritional deficiencies followed by supplementation and consideration of referral to multidisciplinary services, including a dietitian, is likely to improve patient outcomes.

BACKGROUND: Malnutrition is commonly associated with poor prognosis in patients with malignant tumors. The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is an indicator of inflammation in the body and predicts the risk of malnutrition in a variety of diseases; however, its association with malnutrition in lung cancer patients is unclear. The aim of this study is to clarify the association between NLR and nutritional status in stage IV primary lung cancer and to further determine the optimal NLR cut-off that best predicts the risk of malnutrition. METHODS: A retrospective analysis of 209 patients admitted to the Department of Medical Oncology, Tianjin Medical University General Hospital with a primary diagnosis of stage IV lung cancer from May 2019 to February 2021 was performed, and the nutritional risk screening 2002 (NRS 2002) was used to examine their nutritional status. Patient demographic information, pathology, Karnofsky performance status (KPS) score, body mass index (BMI), comorbidities and clinical biochemical indicators were also included. The correlation between NLR and NRS 2002 was investigated. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to determine the best NLR cut-off predi cting malnutrition risk. Multivariable Logistic regression was used to assess the association between NLR and malnutrition risk. RESULTS: The rate of patients with stage IV primary lung cancer at nutritional risk was 36.36% (76/209). A significant positive correlation was observed between NLR values and NRS 2002 risk score (r=0.765, P<0.001). The ROC curve analysis indicated that an NLR of 3.94 was the optimal cut-off for predicting malnutrition risk (area under the curve=0.747, 95%CI: 0.678-0.815, P<0.001), which showed a sensitivity of 55%, a specificity of 86%, a positive predictive value of 68%, and a negative predictive value of 77%. Patients in the NLR>3.94 group had a significantly higher risk of malnutrition compared to those in the NLR≤3.94 group (69.49% vs 23.33%, P<0.001). Furthermore, NLR was identified as a risk factor for malnutrition in stage IV primary lung cancer patients. CONCLUSIONS: NLR is associated with the risk of malnutrition in stage IV primary lung cancer, and NLR can be used as one of the indicators for screening nutritional risk in patients with stage IV primary lung cancer.

BACKGROUND: Population aging might increase the prevalence of undernutrition in older people, which increases the risk of frailty. Numerous studies have indicated that myokines are released by skeletal myocytes in response to muscular contractions and might be associated with frailty. This study aimed to evaluate whether myokines are biomarkers of frailty in older inpatients with undernutrition. METHODS: The frailty biomarkers were extracted from the Gene Expression Omnibus and Genecards datasets. Relevant myokines and health-related variables were assessed in 55 inpatients aged ≥ 65 years from the Peking Union Medical College Hospital prospective longitudinal frailty study. Serum was prepared for enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay using the appropriate kits. Correlations between biomarkers and frailty status were calculated by Spearman's correlation analysis. Multiple linear regression was performed to investigate the association between factors and frailty scores. RESULTS: The prevalence of frailty was 13.21%. The bioinformatics analysis indicated that leptin, adenosine 5'-monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK), irisin, decorin, and myostatin were potential biomarkers of frailty. The frailty group had significantly higher concentrations of leptin, AMPK, and MSTN than the robust group (p < 0.05). AMPK was significantly positively correlated with frailty (p < 0.05). The pre-frailty and frailty groups had significantly lower concentrations of irisin than the robust group (p < 0.05), whereas the DCN concentration did not differ among the groups. Multiple linear regression suggested that the 15 factors influencing the coefficients of association, the top 50% were the ADL score, MNA-SF score, serum albumin concentration, urination function, hearing function, leptin concentration, GDS-15 score, and MSTN concentration. CONCLUSIONS: Proinflammatory myokines, particularly leptin, myostatin, and AMPK, negatively affect muscle mass and strength in older adults. ADL and nutritional status play major roles in the development of frailty. Our results confirm that identification of frailty relies upon clinical variables, myokine concentrations, and functional parameters, which might enable the identification and monitoring of frailty.

Background: The aim of our study was to evaluate the effectiveness of Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM) criteria in assessing malnutrition within the peritoneal dialysis (PD) population.Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis involving 1057 PD patients across multiple institutions, characterized by an age of 56.1 ± 14.4 years, 464 (43.9%) female, and a median follow-up of 45 (25, 68) months. Malnutrition was diagnosed according to GLIM criteria. The endpoint event was overall mortality. The survival rate and hazard ratio (HR) of death between malnutrition and well-nourished were analyzed in all patients and various subgroups. Receiver operator characteristic curve and integrated discrimination improvement (IDI) were used to distinguish the efficacy of the nutritional tools prediction model.Results: According to the GLIM criteria, the prevalence of malnutrition among the study population was 34.9%. The adjusted HR of overall mortality was 2.91 (2.39 - 3.54, p < 0.001) for malnutrition versus well-nourished. In sensitivity analyses, the HR remained robust except the cardiovascular disease subgroup. The area under the curve of GLIM predicting 5-year mortality was 0.65 (0.62-0.68, p < 0.001). As a complex model for forecast the long-term mortality, the performance of adjusted factors combined with GLIM was poorer than combined malnutrition inflammation score (MIS) (IDI >0, p < 0.001), but fitter than combined geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI) (IDI <0, p < 0.001).Conclusions: The GLIM criteria provide a viable tool for nutritional assessment in patients with PD, and malnutrition defined according to the GLIM can predict prognosis with an acceptable performance.

BACKGROUND: Malnutrition is a common geriatric syndrome that is closely associated with adverse clinical outcomes and poses significant harm to older adults. Early assessment of nutritional status plays a crucial role in preventing and intervening in cases of malnutrition. However, there is currently a lack of measurable methods and biomarkers to evaluate malnutrition in older adults accurately. The aim of this study is to investigate the independent correlation between serum levels of amino acids and malnutrition in older adults, and to identify effective metabolomics biomarkers that can aid in the early detection of geriatric malnutrition. METHODS: A total of 254 geriatric medical examination participants from Beijing Hospital were included in the study, consisting of 182 individuals with normal nutritional status (Normal group) and 72 patients at risk of malnutrition or already malnourished (MN group). Malnutrition was assessed using the Mini-Nutritional Assessment Short-Form (MNA-SF). Demographic data were collected, and muscle-related and lipid indexes were determined. Serum amino acid concentrations were measured using isotope dilution liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The correlation between serum amino acid levels and malnutrition was analyzed using non-parametric tests, partial correlation analysis, linear regression, and logistic regression. RESULTS: The geriatric MN group exhibited significantly lower serum aromatic amino acid levels (P < 0.05) compared to the normal group. A positive correlation was observed between serum aromatic amino acid levels and the MNA-SF score (P = 0.002), as well as with known biomarkers of malnutrition such as body mass index (BMI) (P < 0.001) and hemoglobin (HGB) (P = 0.005). Multivariable logistic or linear regression analyses showed that aromatic amino acid levels were negatively correlated with MN and positively correlated with the MNA-SF score, after adjusting for some confounding factors, such as age, gender, BMI, smoking status, history of dyslipidemia, diabetes mellitus and frailty. Stratified analyses revealed that these trends were more pronounced in individuals without a history of frailty compared to those with a history of frailty, and there was an interaction between aromatic amino acid levels and frailty history (P = 0.004). CONCLUSION: Our study suggests that serum aromatic amino acids are independently associated with malnutrition in older adults. These results have important implications for identifying potential biomarkers to predict geriatric malnutrition or monitor its progression and severity, as malnutrition can result in poor clinical outcomes.

BACKGROUND: Disease-related malnutrition after a hospital stay has major consequences for older adults, the healthcare system and society. This study aims to develop and test the effectiveness of an educational video to prevent loss of health-related quality of life among live-at-home older adults after surgical treatment in a hospital. METHOD: This randomised controlled trial will occur at a regional hospital in Norway. Participants will be live-at-home adults aged 65 years and older. They will be recruited from three different surgical departments after a surgical procedure. Individuals with a body mass index below 24 and a home address in one of nine selected municipalities will be eligible for inclusion. Participants will be randomly assigned to either the intervention group or the control group. Those assigned to the intervention group will obtain access to a 6-min educational video 5 days after being discharged from the hospital. The control group will not obtain access to the video. The primary outcome will be health-related quality of life using the Norwegian Rand 36-Item Short Form Health Survey. Furthermore, we will measure body composition, number of readmissions and nutritional knowledge at inclusion and 3-month follow-up. DISCUSSION: This randomised controlled trial is expected to provide insight into whether an educational video can improve the nutritional status of older adults following a surgical procedure and discharge from the hospital. The findings will be useful for assessing how videos offering nutritional advice to older adults who have undergone a surgical procedure can improve their health-related quality of life, reduce loss of function, prevent readmission to hospital and reduce healthcare costs. INTRODUCTION: Despite malnutrition being established as a well-known risk for postoperative complications, the lack of screening for nutritional risk remains a challenge. The aim of this study was to investigate whether self-screening for nutritional risk prior to surgery is feasible in a home setting and if it will increase number of patients screened for nutritional risk, and secondly, to compare their screening results with the "in-hospital assessments" conducted by healthcare professionals. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This was a prospective study involving patients from six randomly selected surgical wards at two Norwegian hospitals as a part of the "Feasibility study of implementing the surgical Patient Safety Checklist the (PASC)". This checklist included a self-reported screening tool based on the Nutritional Risk Screening tool (NRS 2002) to identify "at risk of malnutrition" in patients that will undergo surgery the next 3 months or less. The original screening tool (NRS 2002) was used as a standard routine to identify "at risk of malnutrition" by healthcare professionals at hospital. The interrater reliability between these results was investigated using Fleiss multi rater Kappa with overall agreement and reported with Landis and Koch's grading system (poor, slight, fair, moderate, substantial, and almost perfect). RESULTS: Out of 215 surgical patients in the home setting, 164 (76.7%) patients completed the self-reported screening tool. A total of 123 (57.2%) patients were screened in-hospital, of whom 96 (44.7%) prior to surgery and 96 (44.7%) were screened both at hospital (pre- and post-surgery) and at home. Self-screening at home improved malnutrition screening participation by 71.9% compared to hospital screening prior to surgery (165 (76.7%) and 96 (44.7%), respectively) and by 34.1% compared to pre- and postoperative in-hospital screening, 165 (76.7%) and 123 (57.2%), respectively). The degree of agreement between patients identified to be "at risk of malnutrition" by the self-reported screening tool and healthcare professionals was poor (κ = - 0.04 (95% CI: -0.24, 0.16), however, the degrees of agreement between the patients and healthcare professionals answers to the initial NRS 2002 questions "low BMI", "weight loss", and "reduced food intake" were almost perfect (κ = 1.00 (95% CI: 0,82, 1.18)), moderate (κ = 0.55 (95% CI: 0.34, 0.75)), and slight (κ = 0.08 (95% CI: - 0.10, 0.25) respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Three out of four patients completed the self-screening form and the preoperative screening rate improved with 70%. Preoperatively self-screening in a home setting may be a feasible method to increase the number of elective surgical patients screened for risk of malnutrition. BACKGROUND: Multiple nutritional screening tools are available for older people; however, few screening tools include specific eating behaviours as risk factors that could lead to poor food intake. The 24-item mealtime observation checklist (MOCL), developed by the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare in 2015, comprises signs, symptoms and conditions during mealtime that reflect eating and swallowing functions and oral conditions. OBJECTIVES: To examine factors associated with malnutrition among the MOCL items in older people. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted using data from a retrospective cohort study conducted at four long-term care facilities in Japan. Among the older people residing in the facilities, 198 who received oral intake support were included in the analyses. Nutritional status was assessed using the Mini Nutritional Assessment-Short Form (MNA®-SF), and comparisons were made between 'malnutrition' and 'at-risk or well-nourished'. The association between each MOCL item and malnutrition was assessed using multivariable logistic regression analysis. RESULTS: Of the 198 participants, 98 (49.5%) were classified as 'malnutrition', 98 (49.5%) as 'at-risk' and 2 (1%) as 'well-nourished' by MNA®-SF. After adjusting for participant characteristics such as age and sex, significant associations with malnutrition were observed for four items from the 24-item MOCL: 'Has fatigue due to extended mealtime (odds ratio [OR] = 3.20, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.36-7.53)', 'Food residues in the oral cavity are conspicuous (OR = 2.77, 95% CI: 1.38-5.52)', 'Has difficulty swallowing food and takes time to swallow (OR = 3.78, 95% CI: 1.45-9.84)' and 'Assisted feeding is required (OR = 3.70, 95% CI: 1.73-7.91)'. CONCLUSIONS: The four signs, symptoms and conditions during mealtime identified in this study may be associated with malnutrition in older people. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE: These may indicate the potential eating problems that can lead to malnutrition. By incorporating them into early intervention and prevention measures, health care providers may help prevent malnutrition and improve the nutritional status of older people.

The anorexia of aging is a widespread problem amongst older people, particularly in the hospital setting with up to 60% affected. Despite its high prevalence anorexia often goes undiagnosed in hospital, due to a lack of standardized assessment and evidence-based management, but also lack of knowledge regarding consequences. This review summarizes current evidence for anorexia of aging specific to the hospital setting, giving an overview of correlates of appetite in hospital and consequences of anorexia. It highlights an overall scarcity of research on this important clinical problem for hospitalized cohorts. The few studies point to the importance of anorexia of aging in major health burdens for older people, namely malnutrition, sarcopenia and reduced physical performance, as well as higher mortality. Further research is needed to assess temporal sequence in pathways of causality and to develop effective interventions to combat anorexia.

BACKGROUND: Patients with head and neck cancer are prone to malnutrition, which can lead to adverse health outcomes. A review of the literature revealed a lack of systematic reviews addressing risk factors for malnutrition in this population. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to fill the knowledge gap by identifying risk factors for malnutrition in patients with head and neck cancer. METHODS: A comprehensive search was conducted in PubMed®, Web of Science, Embase®, and Cochrane Library databases, spanning from their inception until June 2023. Three researchers critically evaluated the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Two investigators independently screened the literature and extracted data, resolving any discrepancies through consensus. FINDINGS: This systematic review includes 18 studies. The results indicated that risk factors for malnutrition in patients with head and neck cancer encompass disease-related, genetic, lifestyle, nutritional health, physiologic, psychological, and treatment-related factors.

INTRODUCTION: The importance of dietitians in dialysis units is indisputable and mandatory in Brazil, but little is known about the practices adopted by these professionals. OBJECTIVE: To know practices adopted in routine nutritional care, focusing on nutritional assessment tools and treatment strategies for people at risk or diagnosed with malnutrition. METHODOLOGY: Electronic questionnaire disseminated on social media and messaging applications. It included questions that covered dietitians' demographic and occupational profile characteristics and of the dialysis unit, use and frequency of nutritional assessment tools, nutritional intervention strategies in cases of risk or diagnosis of malnutrition, prescription and access to oral supplements. RESULTS: Twenty four percent of the Brazilian dialysis units (n = 207) responded electronically. The most used nutritional assessment tools with or without a pre-established frequency were dietary surveys (96%) and Subjective Global Assessment (83%). The strategies in cases of risk or presence of malnutrition used most frequently (almost always/always) were instructions to increase energy and protein intake from foods (97%), and increasing the frequency of visits (88%). The frequency of prescribing commercial supplements with standard and specialized formulas was quite similar. The availability of dietary supplements by the public healthcare system to patients varied between regions. CONCLUSION: Most dietitians use various nutritional assessment tools and intervention strategies in cases of risk or malnutrition; however, the frequency of use of such tools and strategies varied substantially.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) combined with malnutrition results in decreased exercise capacity and a worse quality of life. We aimed to develop an observational case-control study to explore the effective and convenient method to identify potential individuals is lacking. This study included data from 251 patients with COPD and 85 participants in the control group. Parameters and body composition were compared between groups, and among patients with varied severity. The LASSO approach was employed to select the features for fitting a logistic model to predict the risk of malnutrition in patients with stable COPD. Patients with COPD exhibited significantly lower 6-min walk distance (6MWD), handgrip strength, fat-free mass index (FFMI), skeletal muscle mass (SMM) and protein. The significant predictors identified following LASSO selection included 6MWD, waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), GOLD grades, the COPD Assessment Test (CAT) score, and the prevalence of acute exacerbations. The risk score model yielded good accuracy (C-index, 0.866 [95% CI 0.824-0.909]) and calibration (Brier score = 0.150). After internal validation, the adjusted C-index and Brier score were 0.849, and 0.165, respectively. This model may provide primary physicians with a simple scoring system to identify malnourished patients with COPD and develop appropriate rehabilitation interventions.

Approximately 5,700 people are diagnosed with myeloma each year in the UK. The standard of care is to receive an autologous stem cell transplant after completion of induction therapy. There are no specific dietary recommendations for people with myeloma, however they are at risk of malnutrition due to symptoms and side effects of treatments. This report describes the journey of a 73-year-old male diagnosed with immunoglobulin A (IgA) lambda myeloma in April 2021. The patient lost 23% of his body weight during 6 months of systemic anti-cancer treatment (SACT), resulting in postponing his transplant twice due to reduced fitness. This report describes an effective, although late, multidisciplinary intervention which was successful for the patient who managed to reestablish a healthy weight and good quality of life. The patient received his transplant in January 2023. This case highlights two important aspects of patient care that should not be underestimated in dietetic clinical practice: early screening and multidisciplinary collaboration. Monitoring the nutritional status of patients and providing early nutrition support can prevent hospital admissions, treatment delays and reduce the associated costs. Multidisciplinary teamwork can improve patient care and clinical outcomes, and it is fundamental to strengthen communication and collaboration among clinical disciplines.

Although nutritional assessment and education are important for hospitalized patients with heart failure, the extent of their implementation in real-world clinical practice is unknown. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the evaluation and management of nutrition during hospitalization for heart failure using a questionnaire survey for cardiologists.In this cross-sectional multicenter survey, 147 cardiologists from 32 institutions completed a web-based questionnaire (response rate, 95%).The survey showed that 78.2% of the respondents performed a nutritional assessment for hospitalized patients, whereas 38.3% used objective tools. In contrast, only 9.5% of the respondents evaluated the presence or absence of cardiac cachexia. Most respondents (89.8%) reported providing nutritional education to their patients before hospital discharge. However, compared with the number of respondents who provided information on sodium (97.0%) and water (63.6%) restrictions, a limited number of respondents provided guidance on optimal protein (20.5%) and micronutrient (9.1%) intake as part of the nutritional education. Less than 50% of the respondents provided guidance on optimal calorie intake (43.2%) and ideal body weight (34.8%) as a part of the nutritional education for patients identified as malnourished.Although nutritional assessment is widely performed for hospitalized patients with heart failure, most assessments are subjective rather than objective. Nutritional education, frequently provided before hospital discharge, is limited to information on water or salt intake restrictions. Therefore, more comprehensive and individualized nutritional assessments and counselling with a scientific basis are required.

The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of malnutrition risk in patients with IBD using different scales to evaluate their usefulness as first-step screening tools for the diagnosis of malnutrition using the GLIM criteria in patients with inflammatory bowel disease. This study included 82 patients with IBD. The Mini Nutritional Assessment, Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool, Saskatchewan IBD-Nutrition Risk and Malnutrition Screening Tool were used to assess malnutrition risk in the study group. In order to diagnose malnutrition, the GLIM criteria were used. According to the GLIM recommendations, malnutrition was diagnosed in 60 patients with IBD (73.17%). Depending on the applied screening tools, the prevalence of moderate and/or high-risk malnutrition in patients with IBD ranged from 20.25% to 43.59%. The highest level of accuracy (ACC) was noted for the MST and MUST questionnaires (92.50% and 90%, respectively), followed by the SASKIBD-NR test (89.97%) and the MNA questionnaire (83.33%). The results of our study indicate a high prevalence of malnutrition in patients with IBD. Thus, there is a need to conduct routine assessments of malnutrition risk using validated scales. The MUST scale seems promising in the assessment of malnutrition risk in patients with IBD as a first step in the assessment of malnutrition using the GLIM criteria.

Undernutrition in children with cancer is associated with complications during cancer therapy. The study objective was to determine the association between specific anthropometric parameters and short-term chemotherapy-related complications and mortality. This was a hospital-based, prospective cohort study of children, age ≤12 years, with a new cancer diagnosis at the Paediatric Oncology Unit, Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Ghana. Socio-demographic information, cancer characteristics and anthropometric measurements were obtained at enrolment. Participants were followed up for twelve weeks from commencement of chemotherapy and selected treatment-related complications such as anaemia and thrombocytopenia requiring transfusions, prolonged neutropenia resulting in treatment delays, febrile neutropenia, mucositis and death were recorded. A total of 133 participants were recruited with a median age of 4.5 years. Eighty-one (60.9%) were diagnosed with solid tumours, 31 (23.3%) had leukaemias and 21 (15.8%) had lymphomas. Of the anthropometric parameters assessed, only arm anthropometry using upper arm muscle area (UAMA) and mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) were associated with complications. Participants with wasting were more likely to develop anaemia and mucositis. However, the incidence of prolonged neutropenia was significantly higher among participants with average UAMA (p = 0.043) and low average UAMA (p = 0.049) compared to those with low UAMA. Risk of neutropenia was also significantly less among those with wasting by MUAC compared to those well-nourished (p = 0.045). Twenty-three participants (17.3%) died with a greater proportion (11/44; 25%) occurring in those who were wasted using MUAC. These findings underscore the need for nutritional surveillance at diagnosis and during chemotherapy, particularly where co-morbid disease is prevalent.

INTRODUCTION: Hospitalized COVID-19 patients may present acute malnutrition which could influence morbidity and mortality. In the first wave of the pandemic severe weight loss was observed in many hospitalized patients. This pilot study evaluates the usefulness of an electronic automatized alarm for the early quantification of a low food intake as a predictor of the risk of malnutrition using COVID-19 disease as a model of severe illness. METHODS: Observational prospective nutritional screening with a daily automatized warning message to the Endocrinology and Nutrition Service provided by the Information Systems. All adult patients admitted for COVID-19 from November 2020 to February 2021 were included. When diet intake was <50% during consecutive 48h, an automated message was generated identifying the patient as "at nutritional risk (NR)" and additional specialist nutritional evaluation and therapy was performed within the next 24h. RESULTS: 205 patients out of 1176 (17.4%) were detected by automatized alarm and were considered as presenting high NR; 100% were concordant by the validated nutritional screening SNAQ. Nutritional support after detection was: 77.6% dietary adaptation+oral supplements; 9.3% enteral nutrition (EN); 1.5% parenteral nutrition (PN); 1% EN+PN and 10.7% no intervention is performed due to an end-of-life situation. Median weight loss during admission was 2.5kg (p25 0.25-p75: 6kg). Global mortality was 6.7% while in those detected by automatized alarm was 31.5%. CONCLUSIONS: The implementation of an electronic NR screening tool was feasible and allowed the early nutritional assessment and intervention in COVID-19 hospitalized patients and can be useful in patients hospitalized for other pathologies.
